My Annual Post-Our Family Recap for 2011

I am sad that I do not post more often, but I am happy that I can post our family update here every year. 2011 has been a great year for us! Hope you enjoy the highlights!

Mark

Mark is still with ARC, working hard. He stays busy keeping all of their systems running smoothly so the doctors can work productively. He also serves faithfully at church with the RAs boys’ group and helped me with teaching the 4^th graders. He ran the Chosen half marathon for the second year in a row and works out regularly. He had fun decorating our house for Christmas this year with all new lights.

Shelley

I finished my role leading MOPS in May. I also got to do a new big job this year—I coordinated the summer Bible camp at our church, which is VBS on steroids. It was hard work but so rewarding to work with amazing adults and minister to awesome children. I am planning to coordinate it again in 2012 with the help of our church’s new children’s minister. I am also teaching the 4^th grade Sunday School class, which includes my Riley. But, amazingly, I haven’t felt as busy this fall and have enjoyed the time with Kendall and developing more friendships.

Riley

Riley continues to grow into an impressive young man. He is in 4^th grade this year and doing well in school. He is a great brother and helper; he even received a special award at family camp this summer for being the “Ultimate Brother”. He still loves his Legos and stormchasing. Riley, Mark and Tyler even got to see an actual stormchasing vehicle, the TIV, at the Texas State History Museum in September. His current obsession is anything about the Titanic. He can tell you anything you want to know about it.

Tyler

Oh Tyler! He’s such a fun boy! He’s in first grade, reading, spelling and doing math. He loves school and works hard. He is becoming so mature and insightful. He got a Bible recently and enjoys reading it and taking it with him to church every Sunday. His prayers are also so compassionate and insightful. He loves Legos and is becoming more proficient and creative with his building. We were really proud of him on Thanksgiving Day, when he ran about 3K of a 5K race without complaining. Tyler will be a ringbearer at my cousin’s wedding in a couple of weeks.

Kendall JOY

What a fun year it has been with sweet miss Kendall! She’s so happy, talkative and fun. This year, she turned 1, started to walk, started to play and talk. She loves music, playing with her babies and being outside. She still loves to swing and has a passion for airplanes and helicopters (she gets it from daddy). She has begun to repeat everything we say; sometimes it’s not something good, but it just melts my heart when she’ll say, “Yes, Jesus loves me…” and “Mom, I love you.”

Family

It’s been a fun year as a family. Some of our biggest highlights were:

Snow in February! We had so much fun in this rare snow day.

Having fun playing in the afternoons outside with the neighbors.

Our family vacation to Rockport/Port Aransas in June. Going to the beach was great fun. We also visited the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington.

We went to Lake City, Colorado to family camp at Camp Redcloud in August. What a memory! We got to go with my mom and dad and my brother Greg and his family. It was a great experience and we want to go back again. It’s like heaven on earth, plus we learned a lot from Creation Camp.

We’ve done lots of other fun stuff around town like playing at GattiTown, going to Austin Park, shopping at IKEA. We really enjoy our time together.

We are also looking forward to a mini holiday vacation just before Christmas at the Great Wolf Lodge and the Lego Discovery Center.

One major change our family is making this fall is that we are working on getting our foster home licensing. We’ve really felt a call to do this for the last 2 years and now is finally the time. We should be licensed just before Christmas and look forward to the possibility of getting a placement right away. We’ve prepared our house for 2 children and cannot wait to see what God has in store for our family. What an exciting Christmas gift!

Kendall

Well, our year started off with a bang, and now we’re swimming in pink! Kendall Joy McDaid was born January 21, 2010 at 4:16pm, weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. All went smoothly, and she has grown like a weed over the last 10 months. At 10 months old, she is scooting, playing and happy. Her favorite things are “reading” and being outside, especially in the swing. She’s very talkative; she is starting to use some real words like uh-oh and cat.

Mark

Mark is still with ARC, working hard. He stays busy keeping all of their systems running smoothly so the doctors can work productively. He got to be home for 3 weeks when Kendall was born, which was such a blessing! At church, he works with the boys’ group, RAs. They just completed their annual Pinewood Derby car build and race. He also works out avidly, and he and I completed our first half marathon in October. I was really proud of his dedication to the training and the race. He did a great job!

Shelley

I continue to help lead the MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers) group at Hays Hills Baptist Church. We had a great year last year and have started another great year this fall. Currently, we have 62 moms in our group with more inquiring daily. We will be launching a 2^nd group in January to have more room for more moms. I love the ministry of MOPS; it reaches stay at home moms in the community so they do not feel like they are mothering alone. I also have enjoyed being more active at the boys’ school. And, amazingly, I trained and completed my first half marathon in October! It was really challenging; I am so thankful to have done it, but I don’t know that I’ll be doing another one anytime soon. I think 5Ks and 10Ks will be fine from here on.

Riley

Riley has really grown and matured over the last year. I have really come to rely on his help, and he has risen to the occasion. He is an awesome big brother; Kendall adores him. He is in third grade this year and thriving in school. He loves to build with Legos and has built many creative designs. He also is loving reading chapter books and is an excellent speller. Riley is passionate about storms and tornadoes. We are curious to see if it will develop into a career in meteorology.

Tyler

Tyler has had a big year! Not only did he lose his position as the baby of the family, he also started Kindergarten this fall. I am so thankful that I got to spend so much time with him at home because I feel like I hardly see him anymore. He is loving school, learning and making new friends. We found out his peanut allergy is not severe, but he still enjoys eating at the “peanut free” table in the school cafeteria. He also is a Lego fanatic, and really enjoys minifigures (the people) and accessories.

Family

I am so thankful for our family time. We’ve really made some memories this year that I will always treasure. We went to Sea World in December, one last hurrah before Kendall arrived. We enjoyed a rare snow in February. In June, we took our first big road trip to Saint Louis, Missouri. It was the boys’ first trip outside of Texas. We visited family, went to my cousin’s wedding, saw the Arch, rode on a riverboat and went to the zoo. But the highlight had to be stopping in Dallas on the way home to go to the Lego store! While we were there, we found out that Austin was getting a Lego store. (It opened in August, and we have been there many times already.) We also did fun things around town, like going to Gattitown, Austin Park, swimming at pools and seeing movies. This fall, we got to spend time with the Beamans for the first time in a long time, which was also really fun.

We still have our sweet Siamese cat Juno, and added another kitten, Milo, last month. Teddy went out a week ago and hasn’t returned. We are still searching for him, hoping he’ll come home and be okay. We’ve had him for 9 years and really love him. But Milo is a silly boy, and he fascinates Kendall.

This year, God has really blessed us. It is so fun to see the world through a new baby’s eyes. Thinking about how much she’s grown in such a short time is amazing. And now, we get to enjoy this holiday season with her. It will be a special time.

Mark
Mark is still working hard as a Programmer in the IT Department at Austin Regional Clinic. With 2 years under his belt, he feels pretty comfortable at his job. He has really enjoyed working out and running this year. This summer, he completed his first Triathlon, then did a family Triathlon with Riley. He’s also run a 5K and a 10K this year, as well as going on regular runs in the neighborhood with the boys to help Riley complete his marathon. I always keep him busy around the house, too! He has built many a furniture piece from IKEA this year!

Shelley
As soon as I finished teaching Pre-K at Mother’s Day Out this spring, I found out I was pregnant! It did come as a surprise, but in September we found out we are having a baby girl, which is so exciting! She will be at the top of our 2010 highlights, since she is due January 21st. Just before I found out that I was pregnant, I agreed to take on the role of MOPS Coordinator at my church. This is our third year, and we are still growing and going smoothly. God has really blessed this group! We even started a sister group in Kyle this fall, which 2 dear friends of mine are coordinating. This summer was tough for me, with the first trimester pregnancy yuckiness and the scorching heat. We spent a lot of time indoors at home this summer.

Riley
It’s amazing that Riley is a 7 year old second grader! He is such a big boy and so helpful to me. He’s a great big brother to Tyler, and I know he will be great with his baby sister (he loves babies!). He loves school and was so excited to get the teacher he wanted for second grade. They have lots of animals in their classroom, including leopard geckos and snakes. He really enjoys running and completed a Kids’ Triathlon in July and ran a 5K in October. He did his first sleepover camp last summer and had a great time.

Tyler
Tyler is 4 and is such a big boy. He and I are doing “home school preschool” and he is learning his letters, numbers and other fun stuff. He loves to “read” and has many of his favorite books memorized. He had to give up his room for the baby, but is excited to share a bunk bed with Riley. Their room is full of Legos, which both boys are very passionate about. I am always amazed at the original creations they come up with! Tyler is running with Mark and Riley—his goal is to do the 5K on his own next fall. Tyler has also had his fair share of boo-boos this year, including stitches on his forehead in March from falling at the park.

Family
It’s been another fun year for our family. We’ve gotten to do some fun things, like going to Round Rock Express baseball games and stock car races at the local track. Mark and Riley got to go camping this spring with a group of men and boys from our church. This summer, we tried some new things, like seeing “Up” at an outdoor theater, learning to play laser tag and race go-karts at Austin Park and Pizza, and going to the Children’s Museum in New Braunfels.
We got to go to Sea World in San Antonio and stay at the Hyatt Wild Oaks Ranch for our summer vacation. It was really fun, especially spending 4+ hours a day in the pool. We also took the boys to the Riverwalk and Rainforest Café.
Oh, and another highlight of our summer was the addition of another cat, Juno. He is an adorable Siamese cat who is so funny and friendly. We originally thought he was a girl until I took him to the vet about a month after we got him. He keeps us laughing and on our toes.

It has been another wild year, with lots of ups and downs. It is so rewarding to see the boys growing up and seeing their character develop. They have really bonded with each other. They both are thriving at church and love Jesus and His word, which is truly exciting. We are looking forward to 2010 with our newest addition. We can’t wait to meet little Kendall Joy in person. She has already captured our hearts! I am so thankful that I can look back and see God’s love and faithfulness in our lives. He has truly blessed us beyond what we deserve.

I will be having a new catalog preview and a watercoloring class Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25th from 10:00-12:00. The class is $15 and you must RSVP by July 13th. You will make 6 3"x3" cards using 6 different watercoloring techniques. Plus, I will have a BONUS card for you to make using a brand new hostess set!

My Next Stamping Class and Finishing Out Sale-a-Bration

I'm very excited about my next stamping class! I am going to teach you six different watercoloring techniques. Watercoloring has always been a weak area for me, it seems like too much work, and I haven't been impressed with the results. But that all changed when I tried SU's watercolor paper! It's so sturdy! Plus, I am in love with the Pun Fun stamp set, which just screams to be watercolored! It makes very cute mini birthday cards. So, I hope you'll join me for this fun class. I have been wanting to stamp on onesies to make custom gifts ever since I saw the ones Emily did on her blog. So I got some new stamps and Palette Inks for Christmas, and I finally made some tonight! They turned out great, and they were so easy!

I am a little bit sad tonight because my cat is missing! I was away for the weekend, and I have not seen him since I left Friday and Mark hasn't seen him since Sunday morning. He's done this before, but I don't think he's been gone this long before! I hope he'll come home.
We've also been struck with cedar fever here. We all have itchy, watery eyes. I hope it won't last too long, because it is no fun! Especially getting on to the boys about not rubbing their eyes--they hate that!
I'm planning to get more crafty tomorrow with Valentine's projects! I'll post again soon!

Fun Stuff!

We've had a fun holiday season! Besides all the usual Christmas get togethers and such, we had some other fun.

My little nephew, Nathan Lee Beaman was born. He was Toshia and Greg's biggest baby, weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 21 inches. He was born December 30th at 3:10am.

Riley finally mastered a two wheeler! He's been riding around without pedals to practice balancing, and it finally paid off! He proudly rode all over our cul-de-sac.

Hey, friends! Thanks for stopping by! Here is our family letter and some pictures.

McDaid Family 2008 Recap

Mark
Mark is still gainfully employed as a Programmer in the IT Department at Austin Regional Clinic. With a full year under his belt, he feels pretty comfortable at his job. Recently, he has been working with the doctors and nurses in the clinics getting a paperless prescription system going. At home, he always has some project to do. This summer, he replaced the timing belt on our car and is always doing some kind of house maintenance job, like fixing the washing machine or garbage disposal. This year, he has diligently worked out at the YMCA and is in great shape! He also is helping Riley complete a marathon (in segments)!
Shelley
I am always busy doing something, and this year was no exception! I am still teaching preschool at First Baptist. This school year, we’ve had lots of challenges, but we’re doing okay. I am also taking care of 2 brothers after school this year who play really well with my boys. I too enjoy working out at the Y, but I don’t get to go as often as I’d like. I am the Finance and Membership Coordinator for MOPS this year. We are excitedly anticipating a new MOPS group starting in 2009! I am still passionate about crafting and enjoy stamping and digital scrapbooking. I get to go on my first scrapping retreat in January!
Riley
Riley graduated from kindergarten this spring, and started first grade this fall. First grade presented a new challenge: being separated from your best friends from your kindergarten class. It’s taken some adjustment, but he is making new friends. He is reading, doing math and learning how to be a good citizen, thanks to his wonderful teacher! Riley is also active at church and participated in his first Pinewood Derby race this fall. In his free time, he likes to play on the computer, play outside or play with his race cars.
Tyler
Tyler is a very active 3 year old. He is very compassionate and loving. He has a whole bed full of stuffed animals that he has adopted or acquired. They are his babies, and he takes good care of them. He is also devoted to his mommy, but does well when he is at school or at church. He potty trained very quickly and easily over the summer while mom and dad were on vacation. His favorite things are candy, Curious George and trains. Oh, and he was an adorable Wall-E for Halloween!
Family
We’ve had fun this year as a family. It is nice that both boys are old enough to go and do meaningful things. We’ve gotten to go to a few races this year, although not as many, since Cameron didn’t race much. We did get to go to our first Monster Truck show, which was fun. We also enjoyed going to several Round Rock Express baseball games. We learned that berm seating is actually better than seats in the stands! We are still enjoying our church. We have gotten connected in an adult Sunday School class, and Mark and I enjoy doing Wednesday evening Bible study. We also co-led 2 rounds of Financial Peace University this year.
The absolute highlight of this year, though, had to be Mark’s and my 10 year anniversary trip! We got to be away for 10 days, driving to Florida to go to a NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway and then going on a 4 night Bahama cruise. It was awesome! We went to Nassau, CocoCay and Key West. The weather was wonderful, and we enjoyed lounging, swimming in the ocean and sightseeing. While we were gone, the boys stayed with Grandpa and Grandma and went to VBS at their church.

It has been a fun year, full of memories and milestones. We are still plugging away at building our savings. It was so exciting to pay cash for our anniversary trip, and to know we wouldn’t have to worry about bills when it was over.
God has continued to bless us. I am excited and hopeful as my children are beginning to know and understand God as they grow. They ask many questions, and we try to answer them all! I am looking forward to sharing the Christmas story with them this season. I think it really may take shape for them this year!
I pray that each one of you, family and friends, would enjoy the wonder and true meaning of the Christmas season. May you be blessed in 2009!

I have gone another whole month without posting! No big excuse, just busy!!

I have an exciting stamping class to share this week, as well as pictures of the Shoebox Swap cards. I love seeing what everyone creates! Not one is alike, and they are all wonderful!

First off, I am hosting one last pre-Christmas class. It is a great gift idea I'd had in my head for awhile. I finally sat down to create it today, and I love it! It will be a gift for all the women in my family. Here is a picture of the final product:

Aren't they gorgeous?? I used the small "Welcome" Decor Element on the glass on the front of a 5x7 frame. Then I made the inserts to go in it. I will add a ribbon at the top to hang it. I think mine will hang on the front door or in the entryway.

If you'd like to do the class, here are the details:

Monday, December 15th 10:00am or 7:00pm (or request a "to go" kit)

Christmas Card Shoebox Swap

One of my favorite pre-holiday events is the Christmas Card Shoebox Swap. Each person designs a card, then brings the supplies for 16 people to make their card. Everyone leaves the swap with 16 different cards! It's a great way to get the holiday inspiration going and have some cards to send. We already have several spots filled, so contact me today if you want to come!
Here's the info:
When: November 22nd, 10-2 (Boxed lunch and snacks included.)
Order Deadline: November 7th
Where: Cindy's house, 110 Hogan in Plum Creek 268-3900
How much: $12
How many: We have 16 total spots available--and they're going fast!

What to do:
Design a Christmas card using all SU! stamps and paper (stamps can be retired).
Cards should the standard 4-1/4" by 5-1/2" finished size.
Cards should have at least one layer.
Pre-cut the pieces to make 16 of your card. (You don't have to pre-stamp.) Bag these individually in an envelope or baggie.
Place all the items needed including stamps and ink to make your card in a shoebox or plastic tub along with your sample.
You'll get to rotate around the rooms and make one of everyone else's card!
Be sure to invite a friend and sign up ASAP before space runs out!

It was supposed to be an easy week...

I was supposed to start teaching Preschool this week, but as we were setting up our rooms Monday, there were more and more of those disgusting little roaches appearing everywhere! We tried to contain them and kill them, but nothing was working. Our director and the pastor made the executive decision to postpone school until next week. So I thought, "Ahhh! A week off! I can relax a bit and have more time to get ready for MOPS on Friday."

Well, not so much! Riley got sick on Tuesday, a combination of a cold and a tummy bug. Yuck! He stayed home Tuesday and Wednesday. The boys also went to the doctor on Wednesday. Riley had to get a shot and screamed bloody murder when he got it (NOT becoming for a six year old!).

Anyway, time flew this week, and I am fairly sure we will start school Tuesday. Oh well!

I made Riley's birthday cake for his NASCAR birthday party. I am so happy with how it turned out! Only 2 of his friends came, but they played and had a blast!

Teacher Gift

So tonight is Back to School night for Riley. He is going to First Grade! I am so excited for him! Having been a first grade teacher, I know he will learn so much this year. We are so blessed to have an awesome teacher, Mrs. Aylor. I made her a little gift--a set of monogram cards in a little coordinating purse. I got the purse idea from Andrea's blog. I used Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red and Bella Rose DSP. The stamps are Baroque Motifs and Lovely Letters.

Color Challenge!

I've had a creative block for quite some time. I have not been able to sit down and stamp a single card just for fun in a long time. I've created, but it's been for a class or a club or something I *have* to do.
I saw this challenge on Melanie's blog and decided I wanted to give it a try. Here's my card. I used Pretty in Pink, Wild Wasabi (bye-bye, old friend), Pink Passion and Certainly Celery. The colors are beautiful together! I used the Garden Whimsy stamp set and the new Scallop Edge punch.
I am very excited about the new stamps I've ordered and am having a hard time using what I have! But this was very fun, and I plan to do some more stamping for fun this week as I await my package! Thanks for the challenge, Melanie! Sorry I was late getting it done!

This is a fun layout I did using Shabby Princess' Promise kit. This is a free kit and it is so beautiful! Anyway, the challenge was to use wings on our layout and what came to my mind was this butterfly. So I scrapped Tyler practicing hiding Easter eggs in our backyard.

This was an ADSR challenge to scrap altered art. This was my first time doing a layout like this. It's probably too simple and not collagey enough, but it's my best attempt!

What I've Been Up To

I've been scrapping away! I have lots of challenges to complete over the next few weeks. Although I am enjoying the challenges, I am looking forward to getting back to my personal scrapping soon.

This was a challenge where I had to take one of Steph's layouts, rotate it and scrap the opposite topic. She had a very cute layout of Chase sleeping in his carseat, and this is how I "spun" it. Click the LO for credits.

This was for Mrs. Wresh's challenge. We had to scrap about something that we liked about ourselves that was unique to us. I have a very negative body image, so I forced myself to scrap about a part of my body that I like. Click LO for credits.

And, finally, this is my LO for Challenge #7 of ADSR. I had to scrap using many different elements, with no more than 2 from 1 designer. This was very hard for me! I like my LOs to coordinate, so I tend to stick with one kit. I also don't like to put lots of elements on my pages. I am always afraid it will take away from the pictures and the story I am trying to tell. All that to say I am very happy with the final product!

Order products by April 5th to ensure yourself enough time to prepare.

What is a shoebox swap?
It is fun stamping event! You design a card or 3-D item (feel free to think beyond the card!) and bring the supplies for everyone to make it. At the swap, everyone gets to make one of everyone else’s card.
Typically, people put their supplies in a shoebox, hence the name shoebox swap.

How many projects do I need to prepare?
You need 1 sample finished project and enough supplies for 20 people to make your project. Please also include a couple extras just in case of “boo-boos”.

What do I bring?
*The pre-cut supplies to make your project (paper, ink stamps, accessories). Please individually bag the paper and accessories in baggies or envelopes.
*Your own adhesive (enough to assemble 20 cards)
*Scissors
*Special snacks or drinks you’d like

Will there be door prizes?
There will be an optional door prize exchange. If you bring a door prize (anything a lady would like, valued about $5), you will receive a door prize. Doing it this way helps to keep registration costs low. There will also be a small goody bag for all participants.

What is on the food menu?
Lunch: boxed lunches from the Texas Pie Company, which include sandwich, chips and dessert
Drinks: Water, sodas
Snacks

What if I need to cancel?
We hope you don’t! We will start a waiting list if needed. Otherwise, it will be up to you to find a replacement and to notify the hostesses.

Can I bring my kids?
No. This is your chance to have a break from being a mom.

What if I want to come but cannot stay the whole time?
You are welcome to come; we just ask that you leave your supplies to everyone can make your card. You can leave a list of your supplies with a friend so they can collect your stuff afterwards.

Guidelines

Please design a project that can be made in about 10 minutes. (If you have a fancy or intricate card, you can pre-stamp or pre-assemble to make it go faster on swap day.)
Cards must have a minimum of 2 layers.
Please use Stampin’ Up stamps*, cardstock and ink. We all want to have top quality products, and this is the best way to ensure that. If you have a new technique or accessory that SU does not carry, feel free to use it. Feel free to ask if you have questions or concerns. We are happy to help you! (*Stamp sets do not have to be current.)
Envelopes are not required. However, we are asking that supplies be individually packaged, and envelopes can be used to do this. You can purchase a box of 40 Invitation Envelopes at WalMart for about $4.00. These fit the cards perfectly!
Due to time constraints, please do not use heat embossing on your card. If you want to use embossed images on your card, feel free to emboss ahead of time for the swappers.
Please do not use craft ink because it takes too long to dry.
Directions are not necessary for your card unless you feel they are needed.

Journaling: I am blessed with some wonderful girl friends. Over the years, I have had friends that have come and gone, but I truly believe these three friends are with me for life.
Heather and I came together because we share a passion for crafting and teaching. Our sons are also good buddies and we enjoy talking NASCAR (not many girls can say that). I am sad that Heather will be moving soon, but I know that we will stay in touch.

Stephanie and I met when we were both pregnant. Besides having boys that are the same age, we bonded when we both became stay at home moms. We grew closer as we did Bible studies together and have shared many ups and downs over the last three years. We have developed a passion for digiscrapping and have fun working together. Stephanie challenges me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, and I am so thankful for that!
Brenna and I met two years ago, and we think we are sisters separated at birth. We have so many things in common! We choose the same clothes, enjoy the same hobbies, had similar childhoods and even think alike. I look to Brenna when I am stumped creatively. She always has a fresh perspective for me!
I thank God daily for my friends. I know that God placed each one of these women in my life to bring out the best in me. I pray that I can also help to bring out the best in each of them.

And lastly, I had to create a timeline for Mrs. Wresh's Challenge this week. I enjoyed reflecting on the highlights in my life and had a great time hunting down old pictures! I have a few more to fill in once I visit my parents this week, but here it is as it is now:

A Challenging Time

This week, for Mrs. Wresh's challenge, we were to scrap about a challenging event or time in our lives. I chose to scrap about my mother in law's passing shortly after the birth of my first son.

My Faith

This week, we had to scrap about what we believe about God.

It was a difficult challenge for me, because I have learned a lot over the last few years. I decided to keep it simple this time. I am keeping a faith journal that I plan to pass on to my boys as they grow older.

The journaling reads:

My faith in God has been with me for as long as I can remember. In the last few years, it has become more real to me as I develop a more intimate walk with my Savior. I am learning that despite my failures, Jesus loves me and wants to have a relationship with me. And more importantly, He wants me to share what I’ve discovered with others. I pray that my life is a living testimony to those around me, especially my children.

My Treasures

This week, I had to scrap about my treasures, other than pictures and scrapbooks. I chose my baby books. Mark's mom gave us the Precious Moments album. She gave it as a gift for Riley, but since we had already started one, I saved it. It became Tyler's book when we found out we were having him. It is a way to connect her to Tyler, so it is special. She loved Precious Moments.

The other is the plaque my dad made for us when we got married. Our parents gave it to us at our rehearsal dinner. It is special to me because I remember how proud my parents were to launch us from their quivers. I was also the first Beaman child to be launched.

The template was designed by Kim B and the kit is called Magical Harmony.

This is the Valentine card I sent to grandparents. I took the pictures myself and created the card. The kit was the Love Actually freebie kit posted by several wonderful designers!

I'm Still Here!

Man, it's been awhile since I've posted...

Our house has been sick over the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, this is the tail end of it!

I have joined 2 digital scrapping challenges. One starts soon and the other I've already done 2 layouts for. I am excited about that one, because it will be a scrapbook all about me! I've always wanted to do one--something I can have and my boys can have that tells who I am.This layout is about the things I love. I used a kit by Petit Moineaux called "douceur enivrante" and a template by jilljackscraps.

This layout is about who inspires me. These are our dear friends, Josh and Stefanie Kirbo who are serving as missionaries in Mexico. They have had a profound impact in our lives. The kit I used is "Sea Breeze" by Lena Gulbrandsen. The template is by Mrs. Wresh.

My new Stampin Up catalog arrived today! It is well ahead of schedule and a welcome treat after a rough day for me (that doesn't seem to be over yet). Tonight, I plan to curl up and make a wish list. Check back tomorrow for highlights!

McDaid Family Letter 2007

Mark
Mark has been very busy this year! He was promoted to Programmer at A+ Federal Credit Union. He traveled to San Diego for training this spring, then went to Charlotte this summer for another training. In May, his good friend Cameron, got a job at Austin Regional Clinic. He passed job opportunities along to Mark, and in September, Mark interviewed and was offered a job at ARC. It was a great opportunity, so he started working there in October. For his new job, he attended two trainings in November. He is reading and studying a lot to learn the programming languages that ARC uses.
Mark also has been busy around the house this year. He built a backyard playscape this summer for the boys. This fall, he installed laminate wood floors in our house. It was a lot of hard work but well worth it.
Shelley
This has been quite a year for me! In an effort to eliminate our debt, I took a night job at the IRS in January (along with doing full time and afterschool childcare). I hung in there until I got furloughed in June, although I did end up working part time. I got to work with 2 good friends and my youngest brother. It was a fun experience, got us out of debt and helped us pay cash for a newer vehicle. After that job ended, I got to go with Mark to Charlotte. It was like a mini vacation for us. We had a lot of fun visiting Nascar’s team racing shops and seeing the sights. This fall, I started a part time job at First Baptist Church in Kyle teaching 4 year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I also keep 3 kids afterschool. I am still selling Stampin’ Up and am also the Craft Coordinator for our local Mothers of Preschoolers group. I stay busy but really enjoy all I am doing.
Riley
Riley has had a big year this year! I put him in preschool when I went to work at the IRS. He had fun, and it helped prepare him for kindergarten. Riley turned 5 this summer and started kindergarten this fall. He is at Kyle Elementary. He loves school and is learning a lot very quickly. We have been very impressed with the progress he’s made. He’s learned a lot from singing songs in class. Riley and I repainted his room this year too. He’s into racing and cars, so it is a racing themed room, with Petty blue walls and lots of racing toys and memorabilia.
Tyler
Tyler has grown a lot this year, too. He is very outgoing and talkative. He has something to say about everything. You also have to watch what you say around him, because he WILL repeat it! He turned 2 in May. He is in preschool Tuesdays and Thursdays when I am working. He is a teacher’s sidekick and likes to tell everyone else what to do. At home, he is definitely in the throws of the “terrible twos”, with lots of fit throwing, arguing and indecisiveness. He loves all lawn equipment and is obsessed with mowers, edgers and blowers. We hope this passion will develop into a future money making business for him.
Our Family
This has been a big year for our family. Early this year, we started searching for a new church home. We visited several wonderful churches and met some great people. In November, we finally picked a permanent place—Hays Hills Baptist Church. This is where my MOPS group meets, and we have some friends who attend there. We are very happy to have a church home, but we are also thankful for the journey.
This summer, we took some time for a family vacation. We didn’t travel far—we went to Sea World in San Antonio for 2 days and went and visited my grandma. Then, we traveled north of Austin to ride the Bertram Flyer train. It was a day trip, but it was a lot of fun. Both boys really enjoyed it!
One of our favorite things to do as a family this year was to go watch the races at Thunder Hill Raceway, a local racetrack here in Kyle. This year, we decided Tyler was old enough to go with us, so we were all there. Mark’s good friend Cameron races a truck in the Texas Truck Series. We got to see many of his races this season, including 2 races that he won! That was very exciting.

I want to pose a challenge to all of you who read this letter. In 2008, I want you to give. Not just to give, but to give cheerfully and in excess! This is a lesson that Mark and I have been learning over the last few years. Three years ago, we were challenged to tithe monthly. When we started, even though we were hesitant, we were blessed immediately. But times were still tight. Two years ago, we were challenged to make a budget and live on it. We were also challenged to make a plan to pay off all of our debt as quickly as possible. As we began that process, God poured out more blessing in the way of a great job for Mark and enough income to live on.
This year, we resolved to get out of debt and worked hard to get it done. As we were searching for a permanent church home, we could have stopped giving faithfully, but we didn’t. Again, God provided with great part time work for me and a new job for Mark. As we end 2007, we are debt free with a plan to build a large savings account. We are also able to give more than we ever have before!
I think Matthew 6:33 sums it all up so well: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
When you put God first in your life, He will give you what you need. He will give you more than you need! I challenge you this year to try it!

Home Improvement!

I haven't posted in a while and this is why---We have been doing some major home improvement in our house. We ripped out the carpet and installed new laminate wood flooring in our living, dining, office and hallways. It was super hard work, but it looks so good! This weekend, we are beginning to decorate for Christmas. This is a fun time of year for our family! Hope it is for all of yours, too! :)

Here's a little Stampin' Up teaser--there will be rub-ons in the new catalog! :) It's going to be so great! We (demos) also got a free new stamp set that is a Level 3 Hostess Set in the new catalog. It's called "Time Well Spent" and is a great stamp set! I will get some cards made and posted here soon. :)

Lots Going On!

We have been very busy the last couple of weeks. I also was sick with a sinus infection, which slowed me way down. Today I am going to post a bunch of pictures and get caught up here.
First, we finished painting Riley's race car themed room. The paint is Petty (or Dinoco) blue, and it looks really great! We dressed it up with Cars stick-ups, posters and a checkered flag valance in the window. I got him lots of bins for his toys, so he has no more excuses to shove his toys under the bed when he cleans.
Second, we had our second shoebox swap this past weekend. It was a Christmas theme and we had lots of fun and made lots of great cards. Lunch from the Pie Company was oh, so yummy and easy to order! I'll definitely order from them again.
Third, we had a fun Halloween. Riley was Thomas and Tyler was a frog.

Last Call!

Creativity at work

My five year old son has become quite creative lately. I feel like he is following in my footsteps. So Saturday afternoon he gets up from rest time in his room and tells me that I don't need to buy him any racetracks because he drew one on his carpet in his room. Drew one? With what, I ask. Crayon, he answers! Are you serious? So I go into his room and sure enough, there is a very large oval drawn in 3 different colors in the middle of his floor! So he got the reprimand about what crayons are to be used for. I did leave it there because I want to take pictures of it before I clean it up. I think it's pretty creative, and I am a little proud of his creativity!

I am busily working on the Stampin' Up! Color swatches. I am making a few extra, so let me know if you want one.

I also am getting ready for our Christmas card shoebox swap. There are a few spots left, but if you want to do it, you'll have to order soon! So let me know!

Recalled!

So, the toy recalls have been making lots of news lately, right? My son, Riley, loves Thomas the Tank Engine and has many of the wooden trains. A few of his pieces were recalled early in the summer, so we diligently packed them up and shipped them off to be replaced. The company sent us a little thank you and we're sorry gift in the form of a little wooden train, Toad. Well, I got an email the other day saying our "gift" had been recalled as well! My goodness, what next????
Well, Toad's been missing, but we cleaned today and found him. He'll be in the mail tomorrow. They are supposed to replace him and send another free gift. I'm not sure we'll even open the packages...
They don't make things like they used to, do they? It's kind of sad that we have to be concerned about the toys that we buy. Hopefully, all of Riley's new Cars die casts are safe!

Goal!

Yesterday, I reached my goal weight at Weight Watchers. I am so excited! I start maintenance today, which means I get to eat a little more, which is weird for me. I've been trying to lose for so long! But, for me, it's good that it's taken so long, because I have really made permanent changes in my eating habits. I am confident that I will be able to keep the weight off.

It's my first post!

I resolved to begin blogging when my oldest began kindergarten. He's been in school a month now, so I figured I've put it off long enough! I love reading blogs--there are many that I frequent. It's a little slice of someone's life, and it helps me feel connected to other moms, scrappers and stampers like me.

So who I am I? That's a great question! I ask myself that a lot. At the top of my list, I am a wife and a mom. I have a wonderful husband and two great boys that keep me busy. Next, I am a stamper and a scrapper. I have been a Stampin' Up Demonstrator for 4 years now. I have a great group of friends and customers. I also have recently jumped into the digital scrapping world. I love it because it is mess free and everything is re-sizeable! There are a lot of great tools on the internet, too--many for free!

I also teach 4 year olds at a local program 2 days a week and am the craft coordinator of my local MOPS group. I stay very busy.

My plan for this blog is to share a little bit of my day to day life and also to share some stamping a scrapping projects I am working on.
